Ilsham English Hub, which is a part of the Learning Academy Partnership (LAP), has been celebrating National Storytelling Week, with activities focused on developing pupils’ love of reading.
A range of academies from across the Trust have become involved in the Hub’s exciting storytelling-themed activities.
One of the highlights of the week was Danni Cooke, Hub Lead, reading ‘Once Upon a Dragon’s Fire’ for all the children in the Trust. The Trust-wide story time was a really great opportunity for the children to embark on an exciting literary adventure together, as a collective.
English leaders at Ilsham C of E Academy also started an academy-wide competition to design a pitch for an outdoor storytelling and reading area. The children came up with some wonderful ideas, demonstrating how excited they are about reading.
Additionally, at All Saints Marsh C of E Academy, the children were visited by local children’s author, David Lawrence Jones. David demonstrated how effective storytelling can be by immersing the children in the worlds he has created in his books.
Finally, many of the schools also created opportunities during the week for the children to read to dogs as well as share stories with other children.
Ilsham English Hub, one of the 34 National English hubs designated by the Department for Education, is committed to supporting schools and academies across the South West by creating exciting opportunities to promote a love of reading and provide an excellent English education for all children.
Emma Bone, Strategic Lead for Ilsham English Hub, said: “It was fantastic to be able to bring all the children together to celebrate such an important week. Each of the activities was planned meticulously in order to best engage pupils from across the Trust in storytelling and support them in developing a love of reading.”
Tracey Cleverly, Trust Lead of the Learning Academy Partnership, said: “Providing our pupils with an exceptional and enriching English education is central to our core vision of ensuring each child has every opportunity to flourish.
“We are committed to not just teaching our pupils a subject, but immersing them in the full potential of where knowledge and a love for reading and writing can take them. Ilsham’s English Hub has done an exceptional job of providing our pupils with these opportunities through all the wonderful and exciting activities.”
