Pupils at Warberry C of E Academy, which is part of the Learning Academy Partnership, enjoyed two exciting visits from local artists, Simon Drew and Peter Blakesley
Simon Drew, who is based in Dartmouth, came to the academy to visit the Year 6 class who have been studying his art for the past few months.
He brought with him a plethora of art gifts for the children and the academy and spent time talking through a range of artistic techniques. The children were utterly inspired and eager to share their new learnings with their peers in other classes.
Whereas, the Year 5 pupils were visited by Torbay artist, Peter Blakesley, who spent the morning working with the children to master their understanding of perspective.
Collaboratively, they created some fabulous pieces of artwork showing off their skills and they were a-buzz with how the art techniques perspective and the vanishing point work. It was marvellous for the children to not only see the artists in action but to have time to work on their own art skills.
The exciting visits have inspired many of the pupils at the school to carry on developing their art skills.
Karen Southard, Headteacher of Warberry C of E Academy, said:
“Thank you so much to Simon Drew and Peter Blakesley for visiting our pupils, they had such a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed being able to work on their own art skills with two great professionals.
“These visits were a really great opportunity to support our pupils in developing their creative skillsets and to showcase where these talents can take them.”
