Pupils and staff at Charleton Church of England Academy, which is part of the Learning Academy Partnership (LAP), have been celebrating their annual Harvest Festival by giving back to their local community.
During the outdoor Harvest celebration, the children were taught about the importance of helping those in need. The academy has also been collecting food donations throughout the weeks leading up to the festival, to be given to the Kingsbridge Foodbank.
The teachers then took the children to deliver the food donations, where they had the opportunity to learn about the important work that the foodbank does to help those across their local area.
Following the Harvest celebration, the parent-teacher association (PTA) hosted a cake sale, with hot chocolate and marshmallows as a treat for the children. Meanwhile, each class prepared a Harvest song or poem to share with everyone.
Finally, the parents and families joined in with the children on a sing-along of the academy’s ‘Harvest Tractor’ song and the children’s favourite ‘cauliflowers fluffy’ song. Everyone at Charleton had a lot of fun getting involved in the activities across the day.
The Harvest Festival was the first time the whole academy had been together since the start of the pandemic, which made it an even more special and happy event. The children also enjoyed delivering the donations to the foodbank, where the staff were very pleased with all the wonderful food the children and their families had donated.
Katie Coombe, Head of Academy at Charleton said: “The festival was such a wonderful way to bring our whole school community together, while also helping to support those in need. Our pupils really enjoyed learning about the traditions and importance of the Harvest Festival and performing the songs they have been practising this term.”
