The children at All Saints Marsh C of E Academy, which is part of the Learning Academy Partnership, have been enjoying their Forest School Funday Fridays.
Forest school is a child-centred inspirational learning process that offers opportunities for holistic growth, supporting their confidence, resilience, and self-esteem.
Recently, the academy has been working in conjunction with Find Your Wild, an organisation that supports schools in helping children connect with nature. With support from Find Your Wild, the pupils have enjoyed learning about fire safety, how to create and sustain a fire and how to cook vegetable kebabs, marshmallows safely and create s’mores.
The pupils have also got creative using natural materials, making clay figures, and learning how to tie knots. They have learnt techniques called ‘hapa zome’, which uses nature to create amazing leaf and flower prints onto a cloth. They have also enjoyed listening to the story of the ‘stick man’ and making their very own stick men and rafts out of natural materials.
The pupils really enjoy working collaboratively with nature and learning new skills and activities. Highlights from the children were enjoying chocolate s’mores and learning how to light a fire.
All Saints Marsh C of E Academy has made it a top priority to ensure every child is given forest school learning opportunities.
Laura Secker, Head Teacher at All Saints Marsh C of E Academy, said: “It has been wonderful to see our small concrete play area transformed into a fun forest Friday learning zone. We are committed to providing these fantastic opportunities for our pupils so they can enjoy the outdoors and develop important skills.”
